1. Experience: You must have at least 4 years of full-time experience at a journeyman level within the last 10 years. This means you should be able to perform the duties of your trade independently, having completed any necessary training or apprenticeship.
2. Age Requirement: You must be at least 18 years old to apply for a license. However, due to the experience requirement, it’s often beneficial to be at least 23 years old when applying.
3. Social Security Number or ITIN: A valid Social Security Number or Individual Taxpayer Identification Number is required for your application.

What If You Don’t Have 4 Years of Experience?

If you don’t yet have 4 years of journeyman experience, don’t worry! A college degree in a relevant field can count toward up to 3 years of this requirement. Additionally, any self-employed experience within the trade will be accepted by the state.
